Hepatitis B and C Virus Reactivation Patterns in a Romanian Cohort of Patients with Chronic Lymphoproliferative Disorders.

Hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV) reactivations have become more common following the intensive use of biological therapies for the treatment of chronic lymphoproliferative disorders (CLD). We evaluate risk factors for virus reactivation and exitus in patients diagnosed with CLD and HBV or HCV infection, undergoing rituximab-chemotherapy (R-chemo). A prospective, observational study in two tertiary-care Romanian hospitals, between December 2007 and May 2010, of patients diagnosed with CLD undergoing R-chemo.

Collaborative Sensing with Interactive Learning using Dynamic Intelligent Virtual Sensors.

Although the availability of sensor data is becoming prevalent across many domains, it still remains a challenge to make sense of the sensor data in an efficient and effective manner in order to provide users with relevant services. The concept of virtual sensors provides a step towards this goal, however they are often used to denote homogeneous types of data, generally retrieved from a predetermined group of sensors. The DIVS (Dynamic Intelligent Virtual Sensors) concept was introduced in previous work to extend and generalize the notion of a virtual sensor to a dynamic setting with heterogenous sensors.

Association of adiponectin/leptin ratio with carbohydrate and lipid metabolism parameters in HIV-infected patients during antiretroviral therapy.

Background: Adiponectin and leptin are adipose tissue hormones that regulate important lipid and glucose metabolic pathways. Our objective was to evaluate the interplay of these hormones described by the adiponectin/leptin ratio (ALR) in correlation to lipid and carbohydrate metabolism parameters in nondiabetic HIV-infected patients during antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Materials And Methods: We enrolled consecutive nondiabetic patients with confirmed HIV infection, undergoing stable ART regimens for at least six months.

Leptin expression in HIV-infected patients during antiretroviral therapy.

Background: Leptin is an adipokine with complex metabolic, neuroendocrine and immune functions. Our objective was to evaluate leptin serum levels in a cohort of Romanian HIV-infected patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy in relation to their immune-virological status, lipid and glucose metabolic abnormalities and the presence of metabolic syndrome (MS).

Methods: We enrolled consecutive non-diabetic HIV-infected patients aged 18 and over on stable cART for at least 6 months.
