Teaching of clinical anatomy in rheumatology: a review of methodologies.

Clinical anatomy may be defined as anatomy that is applied to the care of the patient. It is the foundation of a well-informed physical examination that is so important in rheumatologic practice. Unfortunately, there is both documented and observed evidence of a significant deficiency in the teaching and performance of a competent musculoskeletal examination at multiple levels of medical education including in rheumatology trainees.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage and Libman-Sacks endocarditis as a manifestation of possible primary antiphospholipid syndrome.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of circulating autoantibodies against phospholipid-binding plasma proteins, leading to an increased risk of thrombosis and pregnancy loss. The most common manifestation of lung disease in APS is pulmonary embolism, which may often be the presenting symptom. We present a 30-year-old man with probable primary APS (with no history of thromboses) presenting with diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, an uncommon presentation.

Acute promyelocytic leukemia in HIV-infected adults: a case report and review of therapeutic considerations.

The incidence of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in patients with HIV is exceedingly rare, making the establishment of therapeutic approaches challenging and often individualized. We report the case of a 43-year-old female who presented with fatigue and malaise, and was concurrently diagnosed with APL and HIV. Induction and consolidation with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), idarubicin, and mitoxantrone were initiated in conjunction with highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) consisting of tenofovir/emtricitabine, fosamprenavir, and raltegravir.
