Lasts are foot-shaped forms made of plastic, wood, aluminum, or 3D-printed plastic. The last of a shoe determines not only its shape and style but also how well it fits and protects the foot. A weight-updated boosting-based ensemble learning (WUBEL) algorithm is presented in this paper to extract critical features (points) from plantar pressure imaging to optimize the shoe's last surface to satisfy a comfortable shoe's last surface optimization design.

The UK government has invested in health security capacity development through various projects and agencies, including the UK Department of Health and Social Care, whose Global Health Security Programme provides funding to Public Health England (PHE) to implement health security support. This article describes the results and conclusions of the midterm evaluation, undertaken by Itad, of one of Public Health England's global health projects: International Health Regulations Strengthening, which operates across six countries and works with the Africa Centres for Disease Control.

Although the practice is prohibited in UK community pharmacy, it does take place elsewhere in the world where it relies on visual checks of returned medicines as an indicator of their quality. One proposal is to integrate sensor technology onto medication packaging as a marker of their quality instead.
