View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: To describe a group of patients with retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator (RPGR)-related retinopathy with a tapetal-like retinal sheen and corresponding changes in the reflectivity of the ellipsoid zone on optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging.
Methods: A retrospective case series of 66 patients with a disease-causing variant in RPGR was performed. An expert examiner, masked to patient demographics, clinical evaluations, and specific RPGR variant, analyzed color fundus photographs for the presence of a tapetal-like retinal sheen and assessed OCT images for the presence of an abnormally broad hyper-reflective band in the outer retina.

Cooper pairing in ultrathin films of topological insulators, induced intrinsically or by proximity effect, can produce an energetically favorable spin-triplet superconducting state. The spin-orbit coupling acts as an SU(2) gauge field and stimulates the formation of a spin-current vortex lattice in this superconducting state. Here we study the Bogoliubov quasiparticles in such a state and find that the quasiparticle spectrum consists of a number of Dirac nodes pinned to zero energy by the particle-hole symmetry.

Recent evidence finds adding carbon fiber ankle foot orthoses (AFO) to a walking program can result in improvements in patient mobility and delay claudication onset when walking.
Research Question: How may carbon fiber AFO alter ankle walking mechanics and corresponding triceps surae muscle recruitment in a manner that could improve patient mobility?
Methods: In this repeated measures cohort study, fifteen patients with PAD were fit with bilateral AFO before completing self-paced gait analysis including electromyography.
