TaqMan® OpenArray® high-throughput transcriptional analysis of human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells.

It is widely accepted that somatic cells can be reprogrammed by a set of transcription factors to become embryonic stem cell-like: These reprogrammed cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), are nearly identical to embryonic stem cells (ESCs), because both have the capacity to self-renew and to form all cellular lineages of the body. Transcriptional differences between ESCs, iPSCs, and fibroblasts can be analyzed by quantitative PCR (qPCR) using TaqMan(®) Gene Expression assays, a widely used tool for rapid analysis of different cell types. In this chapter, we describe the OpenArray(®) platform which generates qPCR data from high-throughput instrumentation.

Selective in vivo effect of chitosan on fatty acid, neutral sterol and bile acid excretion: a longitudinal study.

Chitosan, a deacetylated form of chitin, is a dietary fibre known for its hypolipidemic properties, which are mainly attributed to its unique cationic characteristics. We studied the selective in vivo effect of chitosan on fat excretion in order to elucidate its hypolipidemic mechanism. A 4-week longitudinal study was conducted in guinea pigs and the effect of chitosan on fat-absorption was compared to that of a soluble fibre: digestion-resistant maltodextrin.

The Drosophila U1-70K protein is required for viability, but its arginine-rich domain is dispensable.

The conserved spliceosomal U1-70K protein is thought to play a key role in RNA splicing by linking the U1 snRNP particle to regulatory RNA-binding proteins. Although these protein interactions are mediated by repeating units rich in arginines and serines (RS domains) in vitro, tests of this domain's importance in intact multicellular organisms have not been carried out. Here we report a comprehensive genetic analysis of U1-70K function in Drosophila.

BSF binds specifically to the bicoid mRNA 3' untranslated region and contributes to stabilization of bicoid mRNA.

The early stages of Drosophila melanogaster development rely extensively on posttranscriptional forms of gene regulation. Deployment of the anterior body patterning morphogen, the Bicoid protein, requires both localization and translational regulation of the maternal bicoid mRNA. Here we provide evidence that the bicoid mRNA is also selectively stabilized during oogenesis.

[Seroprevalence of T. cruzi infection in 6- and 12- year-old school children from three Uruguayan endemic departments].

The last national survey on seroprevalence of T. cruzi human infection in Uruguay, showed a 3.4% in adults from endemic areas.
