Multiscale Thermal Analysis of Gold Nanostars in 3D Tumor Spheroids: Integrating Cellular-Level Photothermal Effects and Nanothermometry via X-Ray Spectroscopy.

In the pursuit of enhancing cancer treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects, near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy (PTT) has emerged as a promising approach. By using photothermally active nanomaterials, PTT enables localized hyperthermia, effectively eliminating cancer cells with minimal invasiveness and toxicity. Among these nanomaterials, gold nanostars (AuNS) stand out due to their tunable plasmon resonance and efficient light absorption.

Vitamin D supplementation in systemic lupus erythematosus: relationship to disease activity, fatigue and the interferon signature gene expression.

Background: In addition to the well-known role of vitamin D in calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism, vitamin D is important in the modulation of the immune system and inflammatory processes. Vitamin D deficiency is common in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), possibly as a result of sun avoidance. The aim of this prospective open-label study was to assess the effect of the treatment of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency in SLE patients, particularly with regards to disease activity, fatigue and interferon signature gene expression.

Occurrence of reading and writing cognitive processes and perception visual skills in students with Visual Dyslexia.

Purpose: to evaluate and classify visual dyslexic students, considering that developmental dyslexia subtypes are not differentiated in most diagnoses and that they affect a generalized approach.

Methods: Cross-sectional, observational, analytical study composed of 80 students, divided into two groups, GA (dyslexics) and GB (without complaints of learning difficulties) using PROLEC (proof of assessment of reading processes), TVPS - 3 (Visual Test of Perceptual Skills) and TPMBO (Bruininks-Oseretsky Motor Proficiency Test) - subtests 7 and 8.

Results: Comparing the groups, the students of GA presented inferior performance in all the PROLEC tests and in the TVPS3 tests.

An update of nanoparticle-based approaches for glioblastoma multiforme immunotherapy.

Glioblastoma multiforme is a serious medical issue in the brain oncology field due to its aggressiveness and recurrence. Immunotherapy has emerged as a valid approach to counteract the growth and metastasization of glioblastoma multiforme. Among the different innovative approaches investigated, nanoparticles gain attention because of their versatility which is key in allowing precise targeting of brain tumors and increasing targeted drug delivery to the brain, thus minimizing adverse effects.

Biological therapies and their clinical impact in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus.

The development of biological therapies has had an impact on the management of several medical conditions. Their use in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), however, remains very limited. This review has summarized the evidence on the clinical effect of biologicals in SLE.
