Article Synopsis
  • Aberrant epigenetic changes, specifically in DNA methylation and non-coding RNAs, play a significant role in the development of parathyroid tumors, particularly concerning the genes RASSF1A and APC, which are often downregulated in cancers.
  • In a study of parathyroid adenomas and carcinomas, RASSF1A promoter methylation was found in approximately 90% of adenomas and was inversely related to tumor size; however, APC methylation appeared less frequently.
  • The research concluded that the methylation of RASSF1A and APC is a common feature in parathyroid tumors, with the activity of DNA methyltransferases affecting

Article Synopsis
  • Key molecules in parathyroid tumors have altered expression due to gene mutations, loss of heterozygosity, and abnormal methylation patterns, impacting tumorigenesis in sporadic parathyroid adenomas (PAds).
  • An analysis of 32 fresh PAd samples revealed two main clusters (C1 and C2), with C2 containing two subgroups (C2A and C2B) that show distinct gene expression patterns and clinical features, particularly in relation to the severity of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT).
  • The C2A subgroup, marked by loss of TP73 and increased expression of specific lncRNAs, is associated with more severe PHPT, while the C2B subgroup features general down

Background: Individuals with lung cancer (LC) face a variety of symptoms that significantly impact their lives. We use extensive patient input to determine the relative importance and prevalence of these symptoms and identify which demographic features are associated with a higher level of disease burden.

Methods: We performed semi-structured qualitative interviews with participants with LC to identify potentially important symptoms.

In this Letter, we present the design and performance of the frequency-dependent squeezed vacuum source that will be used for the broadband quantum noise reduction of the Advanced Virgo Plus gravitational-wave detector in the upcoming observation run. The frequency-dependent squeezed field is generated by a phase rotation of a frequency-independent squeezed state through a 285 m long, high-finesse, near-detuned optical resonator. With about 8.

We report the case of a paediatric female patient affected by Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcaba syndrome (BRRS) and congenital hypothyroidism (CH) with homozygous mutation of the TPO gene. She underwent total thyroidectomy at the age of seven years because of the development of a multinodular goiter. BRRS patients present an increased risk of benign and malignant thyroid disease since childhood because of inactivating mutation of PTEN, an onco-suppressor gene.
