Background: Endotracheal tube (ETT) is an important risk factor for the development of Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), as it acts as a reservoir for infectious microorganisms and bypasses the host’s defenses. One of the preventive measures for VAP is endotracheal tube composition. It has been reported that biofilm formation is reduced by using ETTs coated with pure silver or silver compounds.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the outcomes of curative surgery for retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS) in elderly patients aged 70 and older, analyzing data from 296 cases between 1994 and 2015.
  • Among the 60 patients identified, the majority were diagnosed with significant tumor sizes, with a notable rate of symptoms and a high rate of complete tumor removal, but also experienced 8% postoperative mortality and considerable morbidity.
  • The findings suggest that while surgery can prolong survival in older patients, it comes with increased risks, highlighting the need for better patient selection to reduce complications.
