How Should Clinicians Respond to Patients Experiencing Ongoing Present Traumatic Stress of Industrial Meat Production?

Slaughterhouse work is traumatizing. Workers experience posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, especially as dreams of perpetrating violence and as emotional numbing and detachment. Workers' increased likelihood of committing violence is demonstrated both anecdotally and quantitatively.

Image-guided biopsy of the synovium is a relatively uncommon but safe procedure with a high-diagnostic yield in the correct clinical scenario. Whilst surgical and arthroscopic techniques are still commonly performed and remain the gold standard, they are more invasive, expensive and not widely available. Risks of mining to salmonid-bearing watersheds.

Mining provides resources for people but can pose risks to ecosystems that support cultural keystone species. Our synthesis reviews relevant aspects of mining operations, describes the ecology of salmonid-bearing watersheds in northwestern North America, and compiles the impacts of metal and coal extraction on salmonids and their habitat. We conservatively estimate that this region encompasses nearly 4000 past producing mines, with present-day operations ranging from small placer sites to massive open-pit projects that annually mine more than 118 million metric tons of earth.

Delayed Achilles tendon rupture presentation: Non-operative management may be the SMART choice.

Introduction: This biomechanical study aims to assess the function of patients who were treated non-operatively for delayed diagnosis Achilles tendon rupture. Patients were treated using the Swansea Morriston Achilles Rupture Treatment protocol (SMART), which is a physiotherapy led non-operative treatment program.

Methods: 19 patients (16M:3F) were enrolled and prospectively assessed using Achilles Repair Scores (ARS)/Achilles Tendon Rupture Scores (ATRS) (PROMS), Ankle ROM and isokinetic peak torque for plantarflexion of the ankle.
