Plastics have become an essential part of the modern world thanks to their appealing physical and chemical properties as well as their low production cost. The most common type of polymers used for plastic account for 90% of the total production and are made from petroleum-based nonrenewable resources. Concerns over the sustainability of the current production model and the environmental implications of traditional plastics have fueled the demand for greener formulations and alternatives.

Intergenic transcription causes repression by directing nucleosome assembly.

Transcription of non-protein-coding DNA (ncDNA) and its noncoding RNA (ncRNA) products are beginning to emerge as key regulators of gene expression. We previously identified a regulatory system in Saccharomyces cerevisiae whereby transcription of intergenic ncDNA (SRG1) represses transcription of an adjacent protein-coding gene (SER3) through transcription interference. We now provide evidence that SRG1 transcription causes repression of SER3 by directing a high level of nucleosomes over SRG1, which overlaps the SER3 promoter.

Treatment outcomes of dental flossing in twins: molecular analysis of the interproximal microflora.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of dental flossing on the microbial composition of interproximal plaque samples in matched twins.

Methods: The study was a two-treatment, examiner-masked, randomized, parallel-group, controlled study. Fifty-one twin pairs between 12 and 21 years of age were randomized to a 2-week supervised and unsupervised treatment regimen consisting of tongue brushing and toothbrushing or tongue brushing and toothbrushing plus flossing.

An articulated rotating brush for office endometrial evaluation of climacteric outpatients.

This paper reports the experience obtained in the last 8 years with an instrument (articulated rotative brush) that allows access to the entire endometrial surface, obtaining material for both histological and cytological study. The latter has the advantage of reducing the number of cases in which insufficient material frustrates endometrial assessment.
