This study evaluated the efficacy, recurrence rates, and safety of intravesical gemcitabine plus docetaxel compared to standard Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy for treating naïve non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), with a focus on reducing recurrence and progression concerns associated with transurethral resection (TURBT). A systematic review and meta-analysis of three original studies were conducted, assessing recurrence rates and safety profiles. The meta-analysis revealed no heterogeneity in recurrence rates between the gemcitabine plus docetaxel and BCG groups, with an overall Odds Ratio for recurrence of 0.

Disrupted cytokine networks and autoantibodies play an important role in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus. However, conflicting reports and non-reproducibility have hindered progress regarding the translational potential of cytokines in SLE. This study attempts to address the existing knowledge gap using multiplex cytokine assay and machine learning.

Article Synopsis
  • Chemical warfare nerve agents (CWNA) are toxic chemicals used unethically in warfare and by terrorists, and current antidotes are inadequate.
  • Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is being developed as a potential prophylactic treatment, but it faces challenges in catalytic activity and substrate specificity.
  • This review covers the development, advancements, and limitations of PON1 as a defense against G-series CWNA poisoning, including various PON1 variants and strategies to reduce immunogenicity.

The rapid growth of multi-omics datasets, in addition to the wealth of existing biological prior knowledge, necessitates the development of effective methods for their integration. Such methods are essential for building predictive models and identifying disease-related molecular markers. We propose a framework for supervised integration of multi-omics data with biological priors represented as knowledge graphs.

Article Synopsis
  • - Recent advancements in cationic polymerization have led to the emergence of cationic RAFT polymerization, shifting from traditional methods that required inert atmospheres and low temperatures to more accessible techniques that can be performed in open air and at room temperature.
  • - New methods utilize various external stimuli (e.g., heat, light, chemicals) to control the polymerization process, allowing multiple polymerization techniques to be combined in one reaction, which simplifies the overall procedure by reducing the need for purification.
  • - This review article explores these innovations, showcasing improvements in catalyst systems that enhance the stereoregularity of the resulting polymers, while also discussing their applications and potential future developments in the field.
