Objective: Periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH) is a malformation of cortical development with high rates of epilepsy. The extent to which nodules participate in normal cerebral functions in addition to pathological processes is unclear. The authors assessed the functional utility (i.

The accumulation of biofilms can potentially be very costly in terms of damage to mechanical systems and health impact on the human body. Space travel, especially long-term space travel, compounds the complications that arise from the accumulation of biofilms because of the lack of access to resources. This study investigates the ability of polyampholyte copolymer thin films to reduce bacteria adhesion in microgravity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study used machine learning techniques to analyze data from the Multicenter ACL Revision Study (MARS) to better understand factors influencing graft failure after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (rACLR).
  • The researchers examined information from 960 patients over a 6-year period, discovering that 5.7% experienced graft failure, with the AutoPrognosis model showing the best prediction accuracy.
  • Key factors affecting graft failure included the history of compromised femoral and tibial tunnels and the type of allograft used in the current surgery.

Background: Revision anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been documented to have inferior outcomes compared with primary ACL reconstruction. The reasons why remain unknown.

Purpose: To determine whether surgical factors performed at the time of revision ACL reconstruction can influence a patient's outcome at 6-year follow-up.

Objective: Periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH) is the most common neuronal heterotopia, frequently resulting in pharmaco-resistant epilepsy. Here, we characterize variables that predict good epilepsy outcomes following surgical intervention using stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) -informed magnetic resonance-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT).

Methods: A retrospective review of consecutive cases from a single high-volume epilepsy referral center identified patients who underwent SEEG evaluation for PVNH to characterize the intervention and outcomes.
