Cell sheet (CS)-based approaches hold significant potential for tissue regeneration, relying on the extracellular matrix (ECM) for success. Like in native tissues, the ECM provides structural and biochemical support for cellular homeostasis and function. Effective preservation strategies that maintain ECM integrity are critical to enhance the therapeutic potential of CS-based approaches.

Due to interactions with organic matter in particular, only a small fraction of TE can effectively interact with the biomass. However, assessing the bioavailable fraction of TE remains an issue.

We hypothesized that a device based on the action principle of a three-point bend fixture could facilitate extraction of bent intramedullary nails; this paper describes its design and experimental testing.
Methods: Five large synthetic left femurs and five steel intramedullary nails were used.
Purpose: This study aims to refine management strategies for malunion and nonunion of Hoffa fractures, as these rare complications present significant clinical challenges.
Methods: We conducted a case series involving seven patients with Hoffa fracture complications, including four cases of malunion and three cases of nonunion. Each patient underwent individualized surgical treatment, depending on the nature of their complication.
Trace elements (TEs) in anaerobic digestion (AD) are known to be essential for optimal biogas production, but inhibitive in excessive concentrations. However, the mechanisms of inhibition are not fully understood. The effects of the addition essential TEs (Co, Cu and Ni) and a non-essential TE (Cd) on the microbial community structure of AD were studied in lab-scale reactors, using total TE concentrations that ranged from 0 to 100 μM.
