Background: Chronic pain following traumatic stress exposure (TSE) is common. Increasing evidence suggests inflammatory/immune mechanisms are induced by TSE, play a key role in the recovery process versus development of post-TSE chronic pain, and are sex specific. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) is associated with chronic pain after TSE in a sex-specific manner.

While ultrasonography (US), physical exam, and laboratory findings are the recommended primary workup and diagnostic modalities, hepatobiliary scintigraphy (HIDA) scans are occasionally used as an adjunct for diagnosis. This study evaluates HIDA scan utilization in comparison to clinical and US findings based on the Tokyo guidelines for diagnosing acute cholecystitis.

Many HRQoL measures exist, but methodological and implementation challenges impede primary care (PC) use. We aim to develop and evaluate a novel machine learning (ML) algorithm that predicts binary risk levels among PC patients by combining validated elements from existing measures with demographic data from patient electronic health records (eHR) to increase predictive accuracy while reducing prospectively-collected data required to generate valid risk estimates.
