A CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (CpG-ODN), iSN40, was originally identified as promoting the mineralization and differentiation of osteoblasts, independent of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9). Since CpG ODNs are often recognized by TLR9 and inhibit osteoclastogenesis, this study investigated the TLR9 dependence and anti-osteoclastogenic effect of iSN40 to validate its potential as an osteoporosis drug. High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) can reduce the need for intubation in patients with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pneumonia induced acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF), but predictors of HFNC success could be characterized better. C-reactive protein (CRP) and D-dimer are associated with COVID-19 severity and progression. However, no one has evaluated the use of serial CRP and D-dimer ratios to predict HFNC success.

Novel strains, JCM 35526 and 261-2C, were isolated from biofilm formed on a reverse osmosis membrane in the phosphate recovery system of a semiconductor factory. Morphological, biochemical, physiological, and chemotaxonomic analyses as well as sequence analysis of the concatenated internal transcribed spacer region and D1/D2 domains of the large subunit of the rRNA gene confirmed that strains JCM 35526 and 261-2C, were distinct from all currently known species. The holotype and isotype strains of the new species, which is named , are JCM 35526 and MUCL 58310, respectively.

Nintedanib treatment is recommended to slow IPF disease progression.
