Pumping surface water from a ditch into a denitrifying woodchip bioreactor could improve nitrate-nitrogen (N) removal by minimizing flow variabilities such as early flow cessation at a given subsurface drainage outlet and flashy drainage hydrographs. Few field-scale subsurface drainage bioreactors with pumping configurations have been assessed. Such evaluations would help better bound reasonable expectations of the benefits and drawbacks at these more advanced bioreactors.

This study evaluated the effects of different sources (sulfate vs. hydroxychloride) of Cu, Mn, and Zn during feed restriction and a high-starch diet on heifer growth performance. On day 0, Nelore heifers (n = 40) were stratified by body weight (BW = 238 ± 38 kg) and age (21 ± 1 mo), and individually allocated into 1 of the 40 drylot pens.

The work presented here marks a further advance in expert uncertainty quantification. In a recent probabilistic evaluation of ice sheet process contributions to sea level rise, tail dependence was elicited and propagated through an uncertainty analysis for the first time. The elicited correlations and tail dependencies concerned pairings of three processes: Accumulation, Discharge and Run-off, which operate on major ice sheets in the West and East Antarctic and in Greenland.

This experiment assessed pregnancy losses from day 31 of gestation to calving in lactating Holstein cows reared in tropical conditions, and evaluated if serum concentrations of haptoglobin and pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs) during early gestation differs according to pregnancy losses. Cows (708 primiparous and 844 multiparous) were assigned to an ovulation synchronization + fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) protocol (day -11-0 of the experiment). Pregnancy status was verified using transrectal ultrasonography on days 31, 62, 120, and according to calf birth.
