Brain CT scan in acute ischemic stroke: early signs and functional outcome.

There is evidence that an improvement of the diagnostic abilities could have a value for prognosis and therapy of the ischemic stroke. New neuroradiological strategies could be used with an amelioration of the evaluation and standardization of the ischemic damage. The value of early vascular sign remains controversial as a predictor of patient outcome.

Brain CT-scan in acute stroke patients: silent infarcts and relation to outcome.

Silent infarcts (SIs) are common findings in stroke patients, but their clinical significance remains controversial. Aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of SI in consecutive stroke patients, characteristics, associated factors, and influence on in-hospital mortality. The population consisted of 191 patients, consecutively admitted for an acute stroke.

Selective bilateral lesion of the globus pallidus: ten-year follow-up of memory impairment and frontal symptomatology.

A case of loss of psychic self-activation (LPSA) and serious amnesia, followed for a period of ten years, is reported. MRI examination documents a selective bilateral lesion of the globus pallidus. This clinical picture, which evokes a cognitive and behavioral deficit of frontal lobe lesions, is attributed to a dysfunction of the frontal cortical area as a result of the breakdown of the frontostriatal circuits.

Value of CT scanning in outpatients: preliminary report on a controlled study.

A series of 100 consecutive new outpatients attending the neuroradiology service for a cranial CT scan between 1 October and 24 December 1984 were analyzed. On the day of the investigation each patient was examined by a neurologist, who gave his opinion on the value of a CT scan. The neurologist's ratings were then compared with the CT reports.

[Rare malformation of the anterior-inferior cerebellar artery. Cerebellar hemisphere angioma and aneurysm of the labyrinthine artery].

The AA relate a case of a complex malformation of the AICA characterized by aneurysm of the internal auditory artery developed inside the internal acoustic channel associated with an angioma fed by the cerebellar branch of the same artery. During a long period with dizziness, tinnitus, headache in the occipital region, mild sensoneural retrocochlear hearing loss a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurred. The vascular malformations were visualized by a vertebral angiography and the axial projection resulted to be the most important clue.
