Introduction: Major electrocardiogram abnormalities (MECG) are common in middle-aged and older individuals and could be an important factor in predicting cardiovascular events.

Objectives: To compare the early and late mortality of patients that have suffered an ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and a non-ST segment elevated myocardialinfarction (NSTEMI).

Methods: Retrospective study of patients treated at the Regional Clinical Hospital of Concepción from January the 1rst 2013 to December 31 rst 2015, with diagnostic of STEMI and NSTEMI that required coronary angioplasty during their hospitalization. Descriptive and multivariate analysis was performed to compare mortality rates between both populations before 30 days and in follow-up at 4 years.

Coronavirus outbreaks are likely to occur in crowded and congregate indoor spaces, and their effects are most severe in vulnerable long term care facilities (LTCFs) residents. Public health officers benefit from tools that allow them to control COVID-19 outbreaks in vulnerable settings such as LTCFs, but which could be translated in the future to control other known and future virus outbreaks. This study aims to develop and test a methodology based on detection of SARS-CoV-2 in aerosol samples collected with personal pumps that could be easily implemented by public health officers.

Biodegradable polymers offer a potential solution to marine pollution caused by plastic waste. The marine biofilms that formed on the surfaces of poly(lactide acid) (PLA) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) were studied. Bioplastics were exposed for 6 months to marine conditions in the Mediterranean Sea, and the biofilms that formed on their surfaces were assessed.

Two new brominated BODIPYs (1 and 2) bearing amino acid-based chains (l-valine for 1, and dimethyl-l-lysine for 2) were synthesized and characterized. In organic solvents, 1 and 2 were fully soluble and showed the photophysical properties expected for brominated BODIPY dyes, including efficient generation of singlet oxygen (O), upon irradiation. In contrast, in aqueous media, both compounds were prone to aggregation and the photo-induced generation of O was halted.
