Large calcium deposits can occur in neuroendocrine tumours of the bronchi and have been observed more frequently with the development of tomodensitometry which is now used for the diagnosis of calcified lung tumours including neuroendocrine tumours. The knowledge of such calcified images should not however mask the possibility of a malignant tumour.

Two cases of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis are reported. Emphasis is placed on imaging techniques for diagnosis with bronchofibroscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage. Treatment of symptomatic forms is based on classical alveolar lavage with a rigid bronchoscope or currently with the fibroscope.

Diseases induced by animal retroviruses are not considered to be good models for the human acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) at present. The lack of an animal model for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection presents a main problem in the complete understanding of the pathogenesis of HIV-mediated diseases. Because of the homologies between simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) and HIV-2, we inoculated rhesus monkeys with HIV-2 and HIV-2 adapted in vitro to monkey cells.
