Photodynamic therapy has been recognized as a viable approach for lung cancer treatment. Some photosensitizer agents are known as X-ray sensitive and could improve radiotherapy efficacy. The use of nanoparticles for drug delivery and as photosensitizer agents offers various advantages because of their rapid cellular accumulation and distribution into target organs.

Introduction: We present a case of late endograft infection that progressed to the left iliac and femoral arteries, leading to left lower extremity gangrene, and the patient's death.

Case: A 65-year-old male with a history of endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) developed left acute limb ischemia (Rutherford category III) and abdominal pain. A CT scan showed significant gas formation around the endograft and complete occlusion of the left distal iliac artery to the femoral arteries.

Background: People who suffered type 2 diabetes have impaired healing of wounds due to the large number of circulating inflammatory cells resulting from high blood sugar levels. The wound healing process involves various complex processes including the degradation of extracellular matrix, a process characterized by an increase in matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). Conventional management of diabetic wounds usually involves systemic blood sugar control and topical antimicrobial treatment, including hydrogen peroxide and povidone-iodine, which are known to be cytotoxic to the cells involved in the wound healing cascade.

The current treatments for wound healing still exhibit drawbacks due to limited availability at the action sites, susceptibility to degradation, and immediate drug release, all of which are detrimental in chronic conditions. Nano-modification strategies, offering various advantages that can enhance the physicochemical properties of drugs, have been employed in efforts to maximize the efficacy of wound healing medications. Nowadays, nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) provide drug delivery capabilities that can safeguard active compounds from environmental influences and enable controlled release profiles.

Article Synopsis
  • MAFLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease) is becoming more common, and it can lead to serious liver problems called MAFLD-ACLF, but what affects patient recovery isn't fully known yet.
  • In a study, researchers looked at data from patients with MAFLD-ACLF to understand their health conditions and see who survived after 90 days, finding that about 51% of patients did survive.
  • They discovered new scoring systems to better predict survival, which included factors like diabetes and the causes of liver damage, and these new scores worked better than older ones.
