Application of green analytical chemistry to a green chemistry process: Magnetic resonance and Raman spectroscopic process monitoring of continuous ethanolic fermentation.

Compact H NMR and Raman spectrometers were used for real-time process monitoring of alcoholic fermentation in a continuous flow reactor. Yeast cells catalyzing the sucrose conversion were immobilized in alginate beads floating in the reactor. The spectrometers proved to be robust and could be easily attached to the reaction apparatus.

[Application for Inpatient Psychosomatic Rehabilitation: Frequency, Quality, and Approval Rates].

Background: There has been a steady increase in psychiatric primary diagnoses in medical rehabilitation services carried out by the statutory pension insurance (DRV). To date, no data are available regarding frequency, quality, and approval rates of applications for psychosomatic rehabilitation. Pension insurance physicians reviewing the application require sufficient information on rehabilitation-related needs, motivation, abilities, and prognosis of an insured person.

[Can ICF core sets be helpful in preparing a social-medical expert report due to incapacity to work?--a first proposal].

Introduction: Social-medical expert reports from the German statutory pension insurance are essential for the German statutory pension regulatory authority to decide whether to grant services regarding participation as well as retirement pensions due to incapacity to work.The objective of this investigation is to determine whether the ICF Core Sets and other international approaches, such as the EUMASS Core Sets or ICF Core Set for vocational rehabilitation cover the content of the social-medical expert reports as well as to propose an approach how the ICF can be economically used by the social medicine practitioner when writing a social-medical expert report.

Method: A retrospective quantitative study design was used to translate a total of 294 social-medical expert reports from patients with low back pain (LBP) or chronic widespread pain (CWP) into the language of the ICF (linking) by 2 independent health professionals and compare the results with the ICF Core Sets for specific health conditions and other international approaches.

[Practice problems in disability assessment of applications for psychosomatic rehabilitation].

In 2008 the German statutory pension insurance handled about 1 600 000 applications for medical rehabilitation. The overall approval rate was 70%, with a range between 60 and 86% in regional pension insurances. The majority of applications were refused on the ground that ambulatory medical or psychotherapeutic treatment was sufficient.

[Quality assurance in sociomedical evaluation].

Presented is the work of the Quality Assurance in Sociomedical Evaluation Project Group and its findings so far. The Project Group has developed a quality assurance concept for the outcome quality of sociomedical evaluations with personal examination and for evaluations on the basis of medical records. The quality criteria proposed by the Project Group are divided into primary as well as particular criteria.
