Targeted metagenomics - Enrichment for enzymes active on sulfated polysaccharides from seaweeds.

Seaweeds (macroalgae) are an attractive resource for diverse microbial- and enzymatic production processes. They are abundant, underutilized, cheap, and rich in carbohydrates, and therefore have the potential to be used as a source of mono- or oligosaccharides, and as substrates for industrial fermentation processes. Many seaweed polysaccharides, including the sulfated polysaccharides ulvan and fucoidan, are however complex and heterogenous in structure, and there are currently few enzymes available to modify them, and understanding of their enzymatic depolymerization remains limited.

Copper-oxygen adducts: new trends in characterization and properties towards C-H activation.

This review summarizes the latest discoveries in the field of C-H activation by copper monoxygenases and more particularly by their bioinspired systems. This work first describes the recent background on copper-containing enzymes along with additional interpretations about the nature of the active copper-oxygen intermediates. It then focuses on relevant examples of bioinorganic synthetic copper-oxygen intermediates according to their nuclearity (mono to polynuclear).

[Epidemiology of monoclonal gammopathy in a general hospital and a university internal medicine department].

Purpose: Monoclonal gammopathy are common in the general population. We describe biological features and etiology of monoclonal gammopathy diagnosed during more than a ten year period in the Internal Medicine Department of Rennes University Hospital and in all the medical departments of General Hospital of Blois.

Methods: Patients were identified by immunofixation registry of Biochemistry Laboratories in both hospital (from 1990 in Rennes and from 1980 in Blois).

[Follow-up of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance in a population of 51 patients older than 70 years ].

Unlabelled: Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are very frequent in the elderly. Its incidence is about 3% after 70 years. We have performed a retrospective study of patients aged of more than 70 years who were examined until 1995 for a MGUS.

[Cryptococcal meningitis associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia: a case report. Review of the literature].
