Healthcare resource use and attributable cost of Clostridium difficile infection: a micro-costing analysis comparing first and recurrent episodes.

Objectives: Accurate and sufficiently detailed data on the economic burden of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) are lacking. We performed a micro-costing study to determine the health resource utilization of patients with a first episode of CDI (fCDI) and those with a recurrent episode of CDI (rCDI).

Patients And Methods: Forty-five adult and paediatric inpatients with rCDI were matched by age, sex and date of diagnosis with control patients with fCDI.

The combination of a pheochromocytoma with any brain neoplasm is a rare occurrence, to our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a glioblastoma multiforme co-presenting with undiagnosed pheochromocytoma.

A School Passport as Part of a Protocol to Assist Educational Reintegration After Medulloblastoma Treatment in Childhood.

Background: Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumour in children and is treated with a combination of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. These children frequently experience long-term cognitive, social and physical sequelae, which significantly affect school reintegration.

Aim: This study aimed to explore school-return experiences to create a more structured school reintegration protocol for children postmedulloblastoma.

Reduced susceptibility to oxidative damage of erythrocyte membranes from medicated schizophrenic patients.

Susceptibility to non-enzymatic peroxidation of erythrocyte membranes from medicated schizophrenic patients relative to healthy control subjects was investigated by measuring internalization into erythrocytes of ethylene glycol, cellobiotol or mannitol, with or without preincubation with cumene hydroperoxide or with chlorpromazine. The main finding was that erythrocytes from schizophrenic patients were less susceptible than those from control subjects to non-enzymatic oxidative damage from cumene hydroperoxide, as measured by internalization of cellobiotol and mannitol. At baseline before incubation, there was reduced internalization of cellobiotol and mannitol and this was reduced even further by preincubation with chlorpromazine.
