[Mathematical calculation of strength of the vertebral column in surgical treatment of unstable fractures of the spine].

A mathematical model of a three-vertebra complex was developed in order to make an exact calculation of loss of supporting ability of the vertebral column in trauma. Mathematical description of the dynamic processes was based on Lagrange differential equation of the second order. The degree of compression and instability of the three-vertebra complex, established using mathematical modeling, determines the decision on the surgical treatment and might be considered as a prognostic criterion of the course of the compression trauma of the spine.
