The Critical Raw Materials Act has been emanated to address perceived risks around supply chains for critical raw materials in light of expected demand growth [1]. Cobalt is one of the critical raw materials for the EU: it plays a central role in transition to a low-carbon economy and is crucial for batteries powering electric vehicles. The cobalt industry is important not only because of the green transition, it also creates employment opportunities as Europe is the third largest region for total global cobalt value chain employment [2].

Unlabelled: The alignment of physicians' interests with those of their hospital has garnered considerable interest in recent years, in part because of their central role in health care expenditure and patient outcomes. However, the systematic study of physician-hospital alignment is currently impeded by a lack of construct clarity. This is evidenced by research that conflates the actions intended to create alignment with alignment itself.

Background: To analyze 2 methods of manual spreader gap assessment accuracy, visual vs blinded, compared with a controlled tensioner in total knee arthroplasty.

Methods: Twenty-two fresh frozen cadaver knees were used to perform total knee arthroplasty by 22 surgeons. Extension and flexion gaps were measured with empirical manual force application with spreaders in 2 different manners: (1) surgeons were blinded to gap geometry formation-blind method group (BM) and (2) surgeons viewed them-viewing method group (VM).

Raman imaging.

Annu Rev Anal Chem (Palo Alto Calif)

October 2012

The past decade has seen an enormous increase in the number and breadth of imaging techniques developed for analysis in many industries, including pharmaceuticals, food, and especially biomedicine. Rather than accept single-dimensional forms of information, users now demand multidimensional assessment of samples. High specificity and the need for little or no sample preparation make Raman imaging a highly attractive analytical technique and provide motivation for continuing advances in its supporting technology and utilization.
