Comparisons of three radiographic views in assessing for scapholunate instability.

Background: Multiple wrist x-ray images have been described to assess for scapholunate (SL) instability. Some views may be redundant. The purpose of this study was to compare three plain x-ray views in identifying a traumatic diastasis of the SL interval.

Complications of K-wire fixation in procedures involving the hand and wrist.

Purpose: Surgeons often use smooth K-wires for bone stabilization in the hand and wrist. The purposes of this study were to observe the incidence of postoperative complications of K-wire fixation in the hand and wrist and to identify associated risk factors.

Methods: A total of 189 patients underwent bone and soft tissue procedures in the hand and wrist with insertion of 408 smooth K-wires.

Arthroscopic tennis elbow release.

Tennis elbow is a common affliction manifested by symptoms of lateral elbow pain and diminished grip strength. Conservative treatment measures will lead to symptom resolution in most cases. Surgery is reserved for patients with recalcitrant elbow pain unresponsive to nonsurgical management.

Outcome of first-time endoscopic carpal tunnel release in a teaching environment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to dissect cadaver hands used in the teaching of the Chow endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) technique and determine the adequacy of transverse carpal ligament (TCL) release and any complications.

Type Of Study: Cadaveric study.

Methods: ECTR was performed on 573 cadaver hands using either the transbursal Chow technique (n = 147) or the extrabursal Chow technique (n = 426).

Adrenal size is increased in multiple sclerosis.

Objective: To determine if adrenal glands are enlarged in multiple sclerosis (MS). Patients with MS and major depression are insensitive to glucocorticoid feedback regulation. Depressed patients have excessively high glucocorticoid levels and enlarged adrenal glands.
