Current challenges and future opportunities in on-scene prehospital triage of traumatic brain injury patients: A qualitative study in the UK.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) presents significant challenges in prehospital care, particularly during on-scene triage, where accurate decision-making is crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study, part of a mixed-methods project, aims to explore these challenges and identify gaps in current on-scene triage practices. Additionally, it seeks to understand paramedics' perspectives on potential diagnostic tools such as brain biomarkers, near-infrared spectroscopy, and decision aids.

High-Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin Assays: From Implementation to Resource Utilization and Cost Effectiveness.

Background: Cardiac troponin is the gold-standard biomarker for the evaluation of patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction (MI). Improvements in assay technology have led to high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays that, when incorporated into accelerated diagnostic pathways, may rapidly diagnose or exclude acute MI more efficiently than conventional troponin assays.

Content: In this narrative review, we provide practical suggestions for implementing high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays, review accelerated diagnostic pathways incorporating these assays, and review the impact of these assays on resource utilization and cost-effectiveness in relation to the evaluation of individuals with possible acute MI.

Point-of-care tests in the emergency medical services: a scoping review.

Background: This scoping review aimed to summarize existing research on point-of-care tests (POCTs) within emergency medical services (EMS). There is a lack of comprehensive reviews covering the breadth and scope of application of POCTs in EMS despite growing interest and potential benefits in this setting. A review of the research will inform how we target future research efforts to support effective implementation and avoid duplication.
