Complexation of Cyclodextrins with Benzoic Acid in Water-Organic Solvents: A Solvation-Thermodynamic Approach.

The aim of this research is to obtain new data about the complexation between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and benzoic acid (BA) as a model reaction of the complex formation of hydrophobic molecules with cyclodextrins (CDs) in various media. This research may help developing cyclodextrin-based pharmaceutical formulations through the choice of the appropriate solvent mixture that may be employed in the industrial application aiming to control the reactions/processes in liquid phase. In this paper, NMR results for the molecular complex formation between BA and β-CD ([BA⊂β-CD]) in DO-DMSO- and in DO-EtOH have shown that the stability of the complex in the HO-DMSO- varies within the experimental error, while decreases in HO-EtOH.

Inverse Thermoelastic Analysis of a Cylindrical Tribo-Couple.

Within the framework of the one-dimensional model for a tribo-couple consisting of two elastic cylinders accounting for the frictional heat generation on the interface due to the roughness of the contacting dissimilar materials, a problem on the identification of the unknown temperature on one of the limiting surfaces of either inner or outer cylindrical layers is formulated and reduced to an inverse thermoelasticity problem via the use of the circumferential strain given on the other surface. To solve the latter problem, a semi-analytical algorithm is suggested, and its stability with respect to the small errors in the input data is analyzed. The efficiency of the proposed solution algorithm is validated numerically by comparing its results with the solution of a corresponding direct problem.

Peripheral inflammation upregulates P2X receptor expression in satellite glial cells of mouse trigeminal ganglia: a calcium imaging study.

Satellite glial cells (SGCs) in sensory ganglia are altered structurally and biochemically as a result of nerve injury. Whereas there is ample evidence that P2 purinergic receptors in central glial cells are altered after injury, there is very little information on similar changes in SGCs, although it is well established that SGCs are endowed with P2 receptors. Using calcium imaging, we characterized changes in P2 receptors in SGCs from mouse trigeminal ganglia in short-term cultures.

[Notes for studying primary care within the context of segmented health systems].

This paper discusses the contribution of the concept of governance, combined with traditional approaches to primary health care (PHC) analysis, in a multicentre study covering Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Considering health systems’ variety of configurations and their segmented context, it aims to compare PHC implementation and performance characteristics in each country so as to explain them according to different determinants and compare them to governance models. Each country’s segmented context is presented, identifying public, private and social insurance sub-sectors’ arrangements.

Mycobacterium fortuitum infection in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

Mycobacterium fortuitum group species is an atypical rapidly growing nontuberculous mycobacterium. It has been increasingly recognized as a potential pathogen mostly encountered in skin and soft tissue infections. Rarely, however, it has been associated with catheter-related infections, either central venous lines or peritoneal dialysis catheters.
