Article Synopsis
  • * Our findings showed that certain KLKs, particularly KLK2, -3, and -15, were associated with shorter metastasis-free survival, suggesting they could be used as biomarkers for aggressive prostate cancer progression.
  • * Additionally, high levels of KLK12 expression were linked to poorer survival outcomes, reinforcing the role of KLKs in predicting the severity of prostate cancer beyond traditional clinical measures like grade and stage.

Article Synopsis
  • * Key proteases like KLK3 (PSA) and TMPRSS2 play significant roles in promoting prostate cancer and have been the focus of extensive research.
  • * Recent studies indicate that proteases are also important in advanced castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), highlighting the involvement of proteins like Notch and CDCP1 in its progression.

Background: Tamoxifen treatment of estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer reduces mortality by 31%. However, over half of advanced ER-positive breast cancers are intrinsically resistant to tamoxifen and about 40% will acquire the resistance during the treatment.

Methods: In order to explore mechanisms underlying endocrine therapy resistance in breast cancer and to identify new therapeutic opportunities, we created tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer cell lines that represent the luminal A or the luminal B.

Serum immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentrations were determined in 12 600 adult Swedish twins, applying a high-throughput reverse-phase protein microarray technique. The prevalence of IgA deficiency (IgAD) was found to be 1:241 in monozygotic (MZ) twins and 1:198 in dizygotic (DZ) twins. Hence, the prevalence in twins is markedly elevated as compared with the normal Swedish adult population (1:600).
