Rather than just focusing on the catalyst itself in the electrocatalytic CO reduction reaction (eCO RR), as previously reviewed elsewhere, we herein extend the discussion to the special topic of the microenvironment around the electrocatalytic center and present a comprehensive overview of recent research progress. We categorize the microenvironment based on the components relevant to electrocatalytic active sites, i.e.

To model this process one usually introduces behavioural threshold mechanisms, which can give rise to the evolution of global cascades if the system satisfies a set of conditions. However, these models do not address temporal aspects of the emerging cascades, which in real systems may evolve through various pathways ranging from slow to rapid patterns.

A modified pressurization chamber of the type developed by Schumaker and colleagues has been constructed for this purpose. The molecular weight was then determined at the top (liquid-gas) meniscus, by means of the Archibald method.
