High-grade gliomas are associated with intratumoral thrombosis, tumor cell necrosis, and hemorrhage. The resulting blood clot serves as an adhesive matrix for glioma cell integrins that activate FAK. Knocking down FAK with CRISPR cas9, on the other hand, is highly effective at halting GBM growth in mice.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the peak insertion torques of three types of screws used for cervical spine fixation: lateral mass screws (LMS), pedicle screws, and the new Attallah screw.
  • Results indicate that while the Attallah screw has comparable torque to pedicle screws at certain cervical levels, it generally shows lower strength at C5 and C6.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that the Attallah screw is a viable option for posterior cervical fixation, but pedicle screws are still considered superior in strength, especially between C5 and C6.

The retinoblastoma gene (RB1) is a tumor suppressor gene that serves a key role in the development of numerous tumor diseases that can be downregulated by DNA methylation within its promoter region. The present study analyzed the methylation status of the RB1 promoter of 85 glioblastomas to assess its role in this tumor. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, RB1 promoter methylation was evaluated using methylation‑specific PCR with subsequent evaluation of the results via gel electrophoresis using ethidium bromide.
