Importance: African Americans have a higher prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) compared to White groups. T2D is a health disparity clinically characterized by dysregulation of lipids and chronic inflammation. However, how the relationships among biological and sociological predictors of T2D drive this disparity remains to be addressed.

Background: Autoimmune encephalidities (AIE) are becoming an increasingly recognized cause of encephalitis. While diagnosis and acute management are well described, information on long-term management and outcomes is limited. Given this, we reviewed 5 years of AIE patients, reporting on chronic management, relapse incidence and possible relapse predictors.

Neuroinfectious diseases represent a growing threat to public health globally. Infections of the central nervous system remain challenging to diagnose and treat, partially driven by the fact that a high proportion of emerging pathogens are capable of causing neurological disease. Many of the trends driving the emergence of novel pathogens, including climate change, ecological degradation, urbanization, and global travel, have accelerated in recent years.

Primary CNS vasculitis (PCNSV) is uncommonly considered in the differential diagnosis of tumor-like lesions. This case report of tumefactive PCNSV highlights imaging features that should increase clinical suspicion for CNS vasculitis, potentially lending to earlier diagnosis and treatment. A 62-year-old man presented with a 1-month history of focal motor seizures and cortical sensory loss localizing to the right frontoparietal lobe.

Article Synopsis
  • The oscillatory retinal neuron (ORN) technology facilitates in-sensor cognitive image computing without relying on external power sources.
  • Its operation hinges on photoinduced negative differential resistance (NDR) at the graphene/silicon interface, which converts optical signals into voltage oscillations, though the underlying optoelectronic mechanism of NDR is not fully understood.
  • Recent simulations reveal that the combination of band alignment and charge transfer rates of excited carriers affects NDR, paving the way for better design of ORN devices for image computing in AI applications.
