Background: Although randomized controlled trials (RCT) have demonstrated the efficacy of mepolizumab for asthma, they have excluded certain patient subgroups. To bridge the gap between RCT and real-world practice, the effectiveness of mepolizumab in a diverse population, including those potentially excluded from RCT, was assessed. Its effects on imaging findings and symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with asthma were also assessed.

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a disease with marked elevation of blood eosinophil associated with various symptoms in the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, peripheral nerves, and skin due to systemic vasculitis. Here, we report a case of EGPA in which rhinosinusitis was treated with endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) with good results. A 49-year-old man who developed bronchial asthma at age 48 was diagnosed with EGPA in our hospital.

Dental materials can stray into the maxillary sinus, causing maxillary sinusitis. We present a case of coexistent fungal rhinosinusitis and actinomycosis caused by gutta-percha points, a core-filling material used for root canal treatment. A 56-year-old man who had undergone root canal treatment with gutta-percha points visited our oral surgery department with complaints of purulent nasal discharge lasting one month.

Fungal rhinosinusitis (FRS) presents as various phenotypes ranging from asymptomatic colonization to life-threatening infections. Here, we report an atypical case of FRS of the left maxillary sinus that extended to the contralateral maxillary sinus through the nasal septum. An 80-year-old woman with a history of osteoporosis was referred to our hospital for further management of headaches and chronic rhinosinusitis.
