Historically, blind intrauterine procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C) and blind endometrial biopsies have been the primary approach for diagnosing and managing intrauterine pathologies. However, these techniques lack direct visualization, leading to diagnostic limitations, incomplete treatment, and increased complication rates. Despite substantial advances in hysteroscopic technology, including high-definition imaging and minimally invasive instruments, blind procedures remain widely used.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading cause of end stage kidney failure worldwide, of which cellular insulin resistance is a major driver. Here, we study key human kidney cell types implicated in DKD (podocytes, glomerular endothelial, mesangial and proximal tubular cells) in insulin sensitive and resistant conditions, and perform simultaneous transcriptomics and proteomics for integrated analysis. Our data is further compared with bulk- and single-cell transcriptomic kidney biopsy data from early- and advanced-stage DKD patient cohorts.

Lichen sclerosus is a chronic inflammatory condition of unknown etiology that affects the genital and extragenital skin, which can lead to sexual dysfunction and has been associated with vulvar cancer. The vaginal microbiome has a critical role in gynecologic health, but little is known about the microbiome in lichen sclerosus. This study investigated the vaginal and vulvar microbiomes of 27 post-menopausal women with lichen sclerosus.

Article Synopsis
  • * Analysis of medical records from a large database compared GBD rates between trans individuals on hormone therapy and those who were not, with findings showing that trans women on estrogen therapy had a significantly higher risk for GBD compared to those not on therapy.
  • * The study concluded that estrogen GAHT is associated with increased GBD risk in transgender women, while transgender men showed no significant change in GBD risk when on testosterone therapy, making this research a first in addressing GBD prevalence in the transgender community.
