Air-conduction (AC) and bone-conduction (BC) thresholds were measured to evaluate standard reference thresholds and recommend revisions to audiometer standards. AC and BC thresholds were measured from listeners with normal hearing (NH) and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) at three sites. NH participants (n = 53) were selected based on age (18-25 years old), normal AC thresholds, tympanometry, otoscopy, and absence of otologic disease.

Pregnane X receptor (PXR) is a xenobiotic-sensing nuclear receptor with a well-established role in regulating drug metabolism and clearance. Recent studies have shown that PXR is involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, immune response, and energy homeostasis. It is important to identify compounds that may modulate PXR activity to prevent drug-drug interactions, distinguish chemicals which could potentially generate toxicity, and identify compounds for further development towards therapeutic usage.

Article Synopsis
  • Research identifies significant gaps in care for older adults in the U.S., with about 13% facing difficulties in activities of daily living (ADLs) and 5% in instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) without receiving help.
