Congenital hearing loss is a significant health concern, with diverse etiologies encompassing cochlear and cochleovestibular pathologies. Preoperative radiological evaluation in cochlear implant candidates is pivotal for treatment planning. We aim to elucidate the spectrum of radiological findings in patients with congenital hearing loss undergoing cochlear implant assessment.

Article Synopsis
  • A clinical trial tested the effectiveness of adding nanogold particles to denture bases made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) against standard acrylic bases, focusing on their impact on bacterial growth.
  • Twenty-two male patients with no teeth received either traditional acrylic dentures or those enhanced with nanogold, and microbial growth was measured over time around the implants.
  • Results showed that dentures with nanogold significantly reduced bacteria counts (Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus mutans) at 2, 4, and 6 months compared to traditional dentures, suggesting a promising improvement in oral hygiene.

Rationale And Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate demographic and radiological characteristics of breast incidentalomas found on 18-fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (F-FDG PET-CT) performed for extramammary indications.

Materials And Methods: A total of 12633 F-FDG PET-CT scans performed between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2024, were retrospectively reviewed. Breast incidentalomas that had undergone breast imaging, tissue diagnosis, or at least 2-year radiological follow-up were included.

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is a common cause of hip pain and is often associated with chronic lower back pain and lower extremity osteoarthritis. Its diagnosis is clinical; however, imaging has been shown to aid in the differential diagnosis of challenging cases. Superb microvascular imaging (SMI) is a new technique that may be more effective than power Doppler ultrasonography (PDUS) in the detection of inflammation-related vascularity in patients.

Background: The number of known inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) has been expanding, and the rate of diagnosis is improving with the development of innovative approaches including next generation sequencing (NGS). However, a substantial proportion of IMDs remain undetected by traditional diagnostic approaches. We aim to highlight the spectrum of IMDs diagnosed by the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) and to learn from the UDN diagnostic processes that were able to detect IMDs.
