Background Traditional assessments in postgraduate medical training tend to emphasize cognitive skills while often neglecting the psychomotor and affective domains. The mini-clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX) addresses these limitations by evaluating clinical, communication, and humanistic skills with immediate feedback. This study aimed to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of the mini-CEX in assessing neurology cases among postgraduate internal medicine students at a medical college in North India.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of a master regulator gene in the development of excitatory neurons, specifically focusing on its function in cerebellar granule neuron progenitors (GNPs).
  • Researchers found that dysfunction of this gene in GNPs reduced their proliferation and led to various cerebellar abnormalities, including hypoplasia and imbalances in neuron ratios.
  • The findings suggest that deletion of this gene during early development can cause autism-like behaviors in mice and highlight uncharacterized gene variants associated with autism spectrum disorder in humans.

Rechargeable lithium-oxygen (Li-O) batteries are being considered as the next-generation energy storage systems due to their higher theoretical energy density. However, the practical application of Li-O batteries is hindered by slow kinetics and the formation of side products during the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions on the cathode. These reactions lead to high overpotentials during charging and discharging.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of three adjuvants (morphine, clonidine, and dexmedetomidine) added to a caudal block with ropivacaine for pain relief in children undergoing selected surgeries.
  • It involved 63 children aged 1-6 and focused on the duration of analgesia, total pain management needs in 24 hours, and incidence of complications across the different adjuvant groups.
  • Results showed that all three groups provided comparable pain relief duration, with dexmedetomidine providing about 380 minutes and clonidine about 360 minutes before additional pain relief was needed.
