Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is one of the principal causes of morbidity worldwide, with respiratory viruses being common etiological agents. Among them, endemic human coronaviruses (hCoVs) including CoV-229E, CoV-OC43, CoV-NL63, and CoV-HKU1 can cause mild ARI but are usually not evaluated in the clinical setting. The aim of this work was to determine the prevalence of all respiratory pathogens, with the focus placed on endemic hCoVs in the pre-pandemic period.

Keratinocytes play an essential role in the inflammatory phase of wound regeneration. In addition to migrating and proliferating for tissue regeneration, they produce a large amount of cytokines that modulate the inflammatory process. Previous studies have shown that subthermal treatment with radiofrequency (RF) currents used in capacitive resistive electric transfer (CRET) therapy promotes the proliferation of HaCat keratinocytes and modulates their cytokine production.

Article Synopsis
  • Eating disorders (EDs) have serious health impacts, particularly on young individuals and women, with delays in treatment leading to worse outcomes; barriers in access to care in Chile were examined.
  • A qualitative study through interviews with patients, relatives, and health professionals identified five key categories affecting treatment access, including gaps in professional knowledge, cultural misunderstandings, and ego-syntonic behaviors among patients.
  • The study highlights the importance of early intervention and psychoeducation as facilitators in seeking treatment, suggesting that public health strategies should address the complexities surrounding treatment delays for EDs in Chile.

  • A total of 4,226 cases (18.4%) were identified as cysts, with radicular cysts being the most common, while 551 cases (2.4%) were odontogenic tumors, predominantly odontomas.
  • This research provides important insights for differential diagnosis and treatment strategies, utilizing the latest WHO classification for more effective healthcare interventions.

For migratory birds, events happening during any period of their annual cycle can have strong carry-over effects on the subsequent periods. The strength of carry-over effects between non-breeding and breeding grounds can be shaped by the degree of migratory connectivity: whether or not individuals that breed together also migrate and/or spend the non-breeding season together. We assessed the annual cycle of the White-crested Elaenia (Elaenia albiceps chilensis), the longest-distance migrant flycatcher within South America, which breeds in Patagonia and spends the non-breeding season as far north as Amazonia.
