This article presents a pilot study that was undertaken into the perceptions of newly qualified health visitors and school nurses of a structured preceptorship programme. The preceptorship programme involved each participant identifying personal goals and objectives linked to their appraisal, and participating in an action learning set over the first year following qualification. As part of the programme, each participant completed a work-related project.

However, its close relative UCP-1 is expressed exclusively in brown adipose tissue, a tissue whose main function is fat combustion and thermogenesis. Studies on the expression of UCP-3 in animals and humans in different physiological situations support a role for UCP-3 in energy balance and lipid metabolism.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe Streptomyces coelicolor dnaE gene, encoding the catalytic alpha-subunit of DNA polymerase III (pol III) was isolated by genetic complementation of a temperature-sensitive DNA replication mutant, S. coelicolor ts-38. The deduced protein sequence (1179 residues) is highly similar to the Escherichia coli-type pol III alpha-subunit, rather than to the PolC-type alpha-subunit that is known to be essential for replication in the 'low G + C' Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis.
