Identification of spontaneous patient-reported complaints related to perianal fistula in patients with Crohn's disease.

Aim: To identify patient-reported complaints affecting quality of life in Crohn's disease patients with a perianal fistula, and to compare differences between subgroups.

Method: A questionnaire was distributed to 1667 patients from the Dutch Crohn's and Colitis Patients' organization, those patients with Crohn's disease and perianal fistula were included. Patients were asked to report (using free text) their most important fistula-related complaints affecting their quality of life.

Prospective cohort study of high-volume transanal irrigation in patients with constipation and/or faecal incontinence.

Aim: The aim of this work was to determine the clinical efficacy of high-volume transanal irrigation (TAI) in patients with constipation and/or faecal incontinence using validated symptom and quality of life questionnaires.

Method: This was a prospective cohort study of 114 consecutive patients with constipation and/or faecal incontinence (Rome IV defined) who started TAI. A comprehensive questionnaire was completed at baseline and 4, 12, 26 and 52 weeks' follow-up.

To what extent are anorectal function tests comparable? A study comparing digital rectal examination, anal electromyography, 3-dimensional high-resolution anal manometry, and transperineal ultrasound.

Background: Anorectal function tests are helpful for objective investigation of anorectal (dys)function. A variety of tests are available, but there is no recommendation when to perform which test. Furthermore, which test is the most accurate is controversial and the correlation between these tests is not very clear.

Hemorrhoidectomy versus rubber band ligation in grade III hemorrhoidal disease: a large retrospective cohort study with long-term follow-up.

Purpose: Standard therapy for grade III hemorrhoids is rubber band ligation (RBL) and hemorrhoidectomy. The long-term clinical and patient-reported outcomes of these treatments in a tertiary referral center for proctology were evaluated.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed in all patients with grade III hemorrhoids who were treated between January 2013 and August 2018.

Efficacy of Permacol injection for perianal fistulas in a tertiary referral population: poor outcome in patients with complex fistulas.

Aim: Injection of Permacol collagen paste can be used as a sphincter-sparing treatment for perianal fistulas. In a tertiary referral population we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Permacol injection and the clinical and fistula-related factors associated with recurrence.

Method: This was a retrospective analysis of consecutive patients with perianal fistulas treated with Permacol injection at a specialist centre between June 2015 and April 2019.
