Aims: To compare the effects of ipragliflozin, a sodium-dependent glucose transporter-2 inhibitor, and those of metformin on the visceral fat area (VFA), a prospective, multi-centre, open-label, blinded-endpoint, randomized, controlled study was undertaken. The generated data were used to examine the effects of ipragliflozin and metformin on indices of hepatic steatosis and liver fibrosis.

Materials And Methods: In total, 103 Japanese patients with type-2 diabetes (T2D), body mass index (BMI) of ≥22 kg/m and glycated haemoglobin level of 7%-10% were randomly administered ipragliflozin 50 mg or metformin 1000 mg for 24 weeks.

Gardenia blue (GB), a widely used plant-derived food color is prepared by reaction of genipin, the aglycone of geniposide, with protein hydrolysate. Recent animal studies investigating GB toxicity have indicated blue coloration in the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and mesenteric lymph nodes in rodents following dietary administration. This study investigated the uptake and disposition of [C]GB in male and female rats and mice administered 100 or 1000 mg/kg by gavage.

Article Synopsis
  • A study evaluated the effectiveness of using a stereoscopic head-mounted display (HMD) for exoscopic neurosurgery compared to traditional monitor displays.* -
  • Surgeons and assistants rated their experiences with HMD during seven surgeries, revealing that while lead surgeons found no significant difference, assistants preferred the HMD for its superior field of view and image quality.* -
  • The conclusion suggests that HMD-based surgery can match the quality of monitor-based procedures, with particular advantages noted for surgical assistants.*

Intracranial aneurysm (IA) can cause subarachnoid hemorrhage or some other hemorrhagic stroke after rupture. Because of the poor outcome in spite of the intensive medical care after the onset of hemorrhage, the development of a novel therapeutic strategy like medical therapy to prevent the progression of the disease becomes a social need. As the reduction of arterial stiffness due to the degeneration of the extracellular matrix via Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) becomes one of the central machineries leading to the progression of IAs through a series of studies, factors regulating the expression or the activity of MMPs could be a therapeutic target.
