Structure-activity relationship study of hydroxyethylamine isostere and P1' site structure of peptide mimetic BACE1 inhibitors.

An aromatic substituent has been introduced into a known hydroxyethylamine (HEA)-type BACE1 inhibitor containing the superior substrate sequence to enhance inhibitory activity. The HEA-type isosteres bearing different hydroxyl group and methyl group configurations were prepared through a branched synthesis approach using intra- and inter-molecular epoxide opening reactions. The effect of their configuration was evaluated, showing that an R-configuration improved the inhibitory activity, while introduction of a methyl group on the isostere decreased the activity.

[Urinary incontinence in early experience with robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy-comparison with radical retropubic prostatectomy].

To compare the results of urinary incontinence in patients with clinically localized prostate cancer, T1a- 3aN0M0, treated by robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) or open radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP), we studied 44 patients treated with RALP and 60 who received RRP by one surgeon between March 2004 and January 2011. The pad-free and safety-pad (1 pad a day) rates after surgery were calculated with Kaplan-Meyer method. All preoperative and postoperative factors were not significantly different between the two groups.

Rapid cytologic diagnosis of choroidal malignant melanoma by vitreous smear.

The eye is an uncommon subject of cytopathological examination. However, cytopathologic examination may be required for definitive diagnosis in some cases, as malignant tumors of the eye may sometimes be difficult to distinguish clinically from benign disorders. We report a case of malignant melanoma (MM) of the choroid, in which vitrectomy was performed for the initial clinical diagnosis of vitreous hemorrhage.

Impact of tumor size on renal function and prediction of renal insufficiency after radical nephrectomy in patients with renal cell carcinoma.

Purpose: From the perspective of oncological and functional outcomes partial nephrectomy is considered standard surgery for small renal tumors 4 cm or less. However, radical nephrectomy is commonly done for small tumors. It is important to predict postoperative renal function in patients to choose the most optimal surgical procedure.
