In order for palaeontological data to be informative to ecologists seeking to understand the causes of today's diversity patterns, palaeontologists must demonstrate that actual biodiversity patterns are preserved in our reconstructions of past ecosystems. During the Late Cretaceous, North America was divided into two landmasses, Laramidia and Appalachia. Previous work has suggested strong faunal provinciality on Laramidia at this time, but these arguments are almost entirely qualitative.

The production of high-quality thin-film insulators is essential to develop advanced technologies based on electron tunneling. Current insulator deposition methods, however, suffer from a variety of limitations, including constrained substrate sizes, limited materials options, and complexity of patterning. Here, we report the deposition of large-area AlO films by a solution process and its integration in metal-insulator-metal devices that exhibit I- V signatures of Fowler-Nordheim electron tunneling.

The question of whether understanding pretend play requires meta-representational skill was examined among typically developing children and individuals with autism. Participants were presented with closely equated true and false pretence trials in which they had to judge a protagonist's pretend reading of a situation, which either matched or differed from their own. Results showed that individuals' theory of mind abilities determined their performance on false, but not true, pretence trials.
