The haptic fidelity of biomimetic materials used in the design of procedural task trainers is of growing interest to the medical community. Shore hardness has been proposed as a method for assessing tissue biomechanics and replicating the results as a way to increase the fidelity of biomimetics to tissues. However, there is limited research on the reliability of human tissue measurements using Shore scales.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 in pregnant women, specifically focusing on unvaccinated Black African women living with HIV (WLWH) and HIV-uninfected women.
  • Researchers analyzed T-cell responses to both the original strain of the virus and the Omicron variant, finding similar responses in both groups.
  • Results indicate that T-cell immunity is maintained across different virus strains, emphasizing that both WLWH and HIV-uninfected pregnant women show comparable immune responses to previous infections.

Pathophysiological processes following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) include upregulated underlying systemic inflammation, which is reflected by changes in different peripheral blood cells and their sub-populations. As inflammation is a crucial process that contributes to post-aSAH complications and clincal outcome, blood cell numbers and ratios in systemic circulation may predict the outcome and provide rapid and easy to quantify point of care biomarkers for these critically ill patients. To identify blood-derived cellular inflammatory parameters which allow a precise prediction of patient outcome after aSAH.

Congestion not only represents a cardinal sign of heart failure (HF) but is also now recognized as the primary cause of hospital admissions, rehospitalization, and mortality among patients with acute heart failure (AHF). Congestion can manifest through various HF phenotypes in acute settings: volume overload, volume redistribution, or both. Recognizing the congestion phenotype is paramount, as it implies different therapeutic strategies for decongestion.

Lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial septum (LHIAS) represents a benign proliferation of lipoid cells at the level of the interatrial septum (IAS) inducing an important thickening of this structure. It respects the fossa ovalis (FO) region, having a typical "hourglass" echocardiographic appearance. There are certain cases though, with unusual appearances and/or with associated pathologies that may induce similar lesions in the heart, in which the differential diagnosis cannot be guaranteed using only the standard methods.
