Irritable bowel syndrome not only is an important differential diagnosis for Crohn's disease but also occurs in one out of three patients with Crohn's disease in remission in parallel. If not adequately diagnosed and treated, additional functional symptoms such as fatigue and/or muscle pain may develop, indicating a more severe course.

Sleep cycles are defined as episodes of non-rapid eye movement (non-REM) sleep followed by an episode of REM sleep. Fractal or aperiodic neural activity is a well-established marker of arousal and sleep stages measured using electroencephalography. We introduce a new concept of 'fractal cycles' of sleep, defined as a time interval during which time series of fractal activity descend to their local minimum and ascend to the next local maximum.

Detecting electromagnetic radiation scattered from a tip-sample junction has enabled overcoming the diffraction limit and started the flourishing field of polariton nanoimaging. However, most techniques only resolve amplitude and relative phase of the scattered radiation. Here, we utilize field-resolved detection of ultrashort scattered pulses to map the dynamics of surface polaritons in both space and time.
