The Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) convened an expert panel to develop evidence-based guidelines for the management of pain in austere environments. Recommendations are graded based on the quality of supporting evidence as defined by criteria put forth by the American College of Chest Physicians. Background: In resource-limited environments, spinal anesthesia (SA) is preferred for cesarean delivery. In women at risk of spinal epidural hematoma, particularly those with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, thrombocytopenia should be excluded before neuraxial blockade. Introduction: Intended for use by prehospital first responders, the Lubo cervical collar is an adjustable, radiolucent, single-use device that incorporates a mechanical jaw thrust mechanism. The combination enables non-invasive airway management in cases of trauma where cervical motion restriction is necessary. The potential benefits include use as an airway adjuvant maintaining upper airway patency, reducing provider task loading.
