Use of brewing industry waste to produce carbon-based adsorbents: Paracetamol adsorption study.

This work aimed to produce activated carbon (AC) from brewing industry waste (the malt bagasse) to adsorb Paracetamol. Malt bagasse was characterized by moisture and ash contents and thermogravimetric analysis. Three types of AC were prepared: C400 (400 °C) and C500 (500 °C) under oxidizing atmosphere, and CN550 (550 °C) under nitrogen atmosphere.

Annually published data show a continual increase in the volume of opioid prescriptions in Germany, thus indicating an intensification of opioid therapy. The majority of opioids are prescribed to treat chronic non-cancer-related pain. On the basis of current guidelines, as well as in terms of the lack of data regarding long-term use of opioids and their effectiveness beyond a period of 3 months, this development must be viewed critically.

Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome complicated by ascites and vaginal lymphatic drainage in adolescence: a case report.

Background: Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a rare disease characterized by capillary malformationsand soft tissue and bony hypertrophy and atypical varicosities. Management of this syndrome is focused primarily on treatment of the complications that arise from these malformations. Ascites and lymphedema are two of the more common complications in these patients.

Volatile anaesthetics may be the main cause of early but not delayed postoperative vomiting: a randomized controlled trial of factorial design.

Background: Despite intensive research, the main causes of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) remain unclear. We sought to quantify the relative importance of operative, anaesthetic and patient-specific risk factors to the development of PONV.
