Introduction: Pelvic lymphadenectomy (pLA) in prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common uro-oncologic surgical procedures. An increased complication rate is accompanied by unproven oncologic benefit. Extent of pLA and mechanisms of metastasis are discussed controversially.

The secondary tumors up to 2009 were registered as well and related to the numbers of the different forms of urinary diversions resulting in tumor prevalences.

To assess the dynamics of systemic disease and to identify patients at high risk for early relapse we followed the fate of disseminated tumor cells in bone marrow for up to 10 years and genetically analyzed such cells isolated at various stages of disease.
Patients And Methods: Nine hundred bone marrow aspirates from 384 patients were stained using the monoclonal antibody A45-B/B3 directed against cytokeratins 8, 18, and 19.
The current literature was reviewed for articles focusing on radioguided surgery in urological malignancies. In penile cancer sentinel lymph node dissection is part of international guidelines. By detailed histopathological analysis (serial sections, immunohistochemical staining) more micrometastases are detectable improving the histopathological staging.

When the sentinel node is negative, there is high certainty that other lymph nodes are also negative. Limitations of this technique include the use of hormone therapy over several months and a preceding transurethral resection or suprapubic adenomectomy.
