Wet Beveling of Microinjection Needles Utilizing Constant Air Pressure for Feedback on Needle Opening.

Microinjection needles are a critical tool in the delivery of genome modification reagents, CRISPR components (guide RNAs, Cas9 protein, and donor template), and transposon system components (plasmids and transposase mRNA) into developing insect embryos. Sharp microinjection needles are particularly important during the delivery of these modifying agents since they help minimize damage to the embryo being injected, thereby increasing the survival of these embryos as compared to injection with non-beveled needles. Further, the beveling of needles produces needles that are more consistent from needle to needle as compared to needles opened by randomly breaking the needle tip by brushing the tip against an object (side of a coverslip, the surface of the embryo to be injected, etc.

Relationship between Location of Focal Traumatic Brain Injury and Canal Involved in Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

Introduction:  Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) has a prevalence of 58% in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) population. Research on idiopathic BPPV has demonstrated a higher prevalence of right-sided canal involvement. While many studies have investigated the epidemiology of canal involvement in BPPV in both idiopathic and traumatic BPPV (BPPV associated with a fall), there has been no assessment of trauma location as a predictor of the location of BPPV.

The black soldier fly (BSF), Hermetia illucens, has gained traction recently as a means to achieve closed-loop production cycles. BSF can subsist off mammalian waste products and their consumption of such waste in turn generates compost that can be used in agricultural operations. Their environmental impact is minimal and BSF larvae are edible, with a nutritional profile high in protein and other essential vitamins.
