Perioperative Care for Bariatric Surgery.

This review will start with a brief pathophysiology of obesity and the requirement for bariatric surgery, and it continues with a preoperative assessment, which includes a surgical mortality risk assessment, respiratory and cardiovascular assessments, and a psychological assessment. In-hospital postoperative care will be discussed, including which patients need a surgical intensive care unit and the monitoring tools required. The need for postoperative medications, postoperative complications, strategies for management, and a follow-up plan are also reviewed.

Nitro fatty acids: A comprehensive review on analytical methods and levels in health and disease.

Nitro fatty acids (NO-FAs) are biologically active compounds produced from the reaction of unsaturated fatty acids with reactive nitrogen species (RNS). Due to their electrophilic nature, these endogenously produced metabolites can react with nucleophilic targets, producing a spectrum of modulatory and protective effects. Determination of NO-FAs in biological samples is challenging due to their low nanomolar to picomolar endogenous concentrations, indistinct metabolism, and distribution in many tissues and biofluids.

Antibiotic versus surgery in the treatment of acute appendicitis in the pregnant population: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Acute appendicitis is the most common surgical emergency in pregnant women. There has been a wide variance in clinical practice worldwide, with some favoring an antibiotic-only approach while others prefer surgery as the first-line management. Therefore, we designed the current analysis to synthesize the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of antibiotics versus surgery management.

Effect of different types of smoking on oral health and on cellular changes in oral mucosa.

Objectives: Smoking is known to be a major risk factor for several diseases. Recently, electronic cigarettes have been introduced to the market; however, their effect on oral health has not been well studied yet. We aim to compare the effect of different types of smoking on oral health and to evaluate cytomorphological changes in oral mucosa among different types of smokers.
